1956 AUSTIN HEALEY 100 M LE MANS One of 640 from the factory
1956 Austin Healey 100M!!!!Yep, One of 640 from the factory. Verified. Documented. Paperwork. History. Registry. This Healey occupies its place in rarified air. Healey made 50 "S" models, 355 Tri-Carb Two-seaters, and 640 factory M models. Last time I looked at the M registry that Bill Meade has less than 200 of these "real" M's that can be accounted for. If you're a Healey person you already know these numbers, if you are a collector/investor you are looking at the most desirable Healey after a 100 "S'.Let's start with the documentation- CRITICAL in a Healey 100M. The first Heritage Certificate we have is dated 1991 and in the other section, it says- "With the louvered bonnet, this car is a genuine factory-built 100 "M" (or Le Mans) model. The 2011 Heritage Certificate says- The BMIHT can confirm that this vehicle is a genuine, factory-built 100 "M" Le Mans.
We spent 14K and that was a favor- we got, in my opinion, much more than we paid for. The paint is stunning. The metal was and is good.We are of the opinion that this M has led a pretty sheltered life. Great floors, great sills, one outrigger touched up just a bit. This is one solid old car. The exterior sheet metal was excellent at the time of our repaint (I know this because the shop manager of the place we use always wants to let me know if there's an issue- imagine that). Have confidence.Original Engine. Look at the tag. Original M numbers stamped in the hood (bonnet) of course. The trunk is a replacement from somewhere in its past. The engine compartment and underside are nice and tidy but have not been recently restored. This is one very correct, very nice running and driving M. There seem to be very few M's available in this price range- we see cars for 80K that need a total restoration and we see cars that are ground up restored at 190 and up.We think this car represents a value in the market as a stunning driver and a model that has appreciated very well over the last twenty-plus years.
