1955 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud
The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud carried on the Rolls-Royce modernization
program, which used a separate frame, but stamped steel standard bodywork produced
by the Pressed Steel company, which allowed for high strength and excellent
panel fit. The Hood, trunk and doors
were Aluminum, and the rest of the body, and of course the frame were steel. The
Silver Cloud was the height of luxury when it was new, with a staggering $13,250
list price, or, to put it another way, more than 2 Cadillac Eldorados! The 4,887 Cubic Centimeter 6 Cylinder engine
was optimized for smoothness and silent running, the GM dual range hydramatic automatic transmission
was the best in the business, and all of that polished burlwood and leather
made a dramatic statement in 1955 – and today!
