It was based on the W203-generation C-Class, but its exterior styling brought it in line with the bigger E-Class. AMG's fire-breathing 55 model arrived a little bit later with a V8 engine and a much more muscular design. It was replaced by the "63" for 2007, and CLK sales ended after the 2009 model year. Its spot in the range was filled by the two-door E-Class.
